Blind to the experience? Open your eyes!
As a 17 year old, starting out on the rest of my life, choosing my path of further education, I had to decide firstly what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go.
I knew Leeds had a very reputable PR course at Leeds Met, but to the fore of my mind and decision-making was the great music scene and opportunities for me to perform as a singer with the many open mic nights and the chance of possible gigs. Three years on I am a member of the Stolen Frames indie/folk band and we perform on a regular basis, in between studies and work of course – so my predictions turned out to be right!
Leeds is a city that lots of people, including myself, fall in love with for many reasons, including its unique styling and quirky venues. But it had never dawned on me to explore the wider region. THEN I started my placement at B&H. This experience gave me the opportunity to really broaden my knowledge of what’s going on in the Yorkshire Dales, apart from the filming of Emmerdale!
Working with clients such as Yorkshire’s Magnificent Attractions, Great Inns of Britain and Cedar Court Hotels has helped me to uncover a wealth of activities and attractions to get me and my housemates off the sofa and more involved in Yorkshire culture.
I know we would love to pretend we were on safari down at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park or being catapulted to stomach swilling heights at Lightwater Valley . There are so many interesting days out to be enjoyed in Yorkshire and I am thrilled I have discovered all the best ones. And when I have any ‘older’ visitors (i.e. parents) I know they would love the picturesque setting of Castle Howard or a relaxing stay at Shibden Mill.
Now I’m off to discover Yorkshire!
