Coinciding with the red-carpet premiere of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, the Bonner and Hindley team were delighted to support with PR, comms, marketing, and social media for a brand new initiative celebrating South Yorkshire’s amazing creative industries.
In collaboration with Sheffield Mayoral Combined Authority (previously Sheffield City Region), Showroom Workstation and Sheffield Theatres, the South Yorkshire Cultural and Creative Industries Summit explored how the cultural and creative industries summit could build on the release of Jamie’s success to the region. Now, this is a bit of a mouthful so let me explain.

South Yorkshire is home to a wealth of creative talent, creative industries, and holds enormous potential, but this is currently underexplored. Thus, the summit aimed to draw attention to South Yorkshire’s creative industries using the release of Jamie as a springboard. A movie filmed in and around Sheffield, produced by Sheffield-based Warp Films and shines a spotlight on South Yorkshire’s talent and grassroots successes. With excellent cheesy songs and dance numbers, too…
Featuring guests from Warp Films, Sheffield Theatres, Screen Yorkshire, Arts Council England, Creative England and even the Mayor of South Yorkshire, Dan Jarvis in attendance, the summit would explore how to develop South Yorkshire’s creative industries, to not only build on the region’s economy but develop South Yorkshire as a hub of creative talent.

But how did B&H help? Well, thanks to our excellent PR team, the summit attracted HUGE regional media attention including The Yorkshire Post, the Sheffield Telegraph, the main story on BBC Look North, radio coverage on BBC Radio Sheffield and even a segment on the BBC Politics Show to name a few. Plus, as a result of our team’s initiative to research the key evidence and statistics behind South Yorkshire’s creative industries, importance of the summit was reinforced, which helped to land multiple pages in the Yorkshire Post. Including the front page! This was a huge undertaking by our team with lots of stakeholders included in the project.

But that’s not all, as an open event with several key stakeholders in the creative industries sector attending the summit, engaging with an audience was key! Our team devised and executed a HUGELY success social media campaign in preparation of the summit, alongside live coverage in Sheffield on the day, specifically across Twitter. Capitalising on the aims and objectives of the summit and utilising the powerful buzz already surrounding the release of the film the team produced 71.5K impressions across the week.
Alongside You and Us Events, who worked with our B&H team to plan and executive the management of the event, our team not only delivered on their goals, but helped to celebrate South Yorkshire’s creative industries when the whole world had their eyes on region! Plus, for an added bonus, our team were lucky enough to see the first showing of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, following the summit at Showroom Workstation, with an enormous box of popcorn! How could they say no to a musical?
