Many people have asked me why I wanted to do an apprenticeship, and the answer was simple. After I left college, I knew that I did not want to go to university and that the apprenticeship path was for me. I knew in myself that I personally learn more efficiently when I am learning something practically instead of being in a classroom or a lecture room. Everyone is completely different with how they learn but I knew as soon as I started at B&H that I had chosen the right path. Within the current circumstances, I found it hard to find an apprenticeship that suited me and after so many interviews and so many let downs it was hard to keep being positive. However, I had supportive people around me who kept pushing me and, in the end, it led me to B&H and I could not be happier that I hung on that little longer.
Due to the pandemic, there have been many challenges that everyone has faced, including adapting the way we work. This has been challenging as we have had to turn to remote learning, which is something, as a team we have made work effectively. I feel very lucky to have a team of people around me that are so lovely and supportive, and whilst it is not the same as everyone being in the office, if I do have any problems, I know that they are only a zoom or teams call away and that we can work through it together. With me being an apprentice, it was crucial that I got into the office at some point during the week to get the best out of my apprenticeship experience and to get myself familiar with a work environment. I am beyond pleased that I chose to do an apprenticeship even in these uncertain times and I could not think of a better place to work or a better way to start my career.
Looking back and reflecting on the past month since I have started at B&H, I only have positive feedback about the apprenticeship so far. I am constantly learning and gaining new skills whether that be learning how to use new software or transferrable life skills. I sometimes think that the fear of being an apprentice is being left to teach yourself with no support, however at B&H I have never had that fear as I always have work to be doing and I always have a supportive team around me. So far, I have done work for many different clients all wanting different outcomes, I have had the opportunity to work with some different members of the team and I look forward to working with the rest of them.
